AsianInfrastructureInvestmentBank(AIIB)President:Tobuildupthewell-beingoftheentirehumansocietyisthevalsueofChinaandAIIB_GuangmingOnlineAsianInfrastructureInvestmentBank(AIIB)President:Tobuildupthewell-beingoftheentirehumansocietyisthevalsueofChinaandAIIBMr.JinLiqun,PresidentoftheAsianInfrastructureInvestmentBank(AIIB),wasinterviewedbytheBeltandRoadAmbassadorInterviewProgram,wherehediscussedmanyaspectsoftheAIIBincludingitsfoundingandvision,commonalitybetweentheAIIBandtheBeltandRoadInitiative,andhowthevalsuesofAIIBalignwiththevalsuesofChina.PhotoofJinLiqun,PresidentoftheAsianInfrastructureInvestmentBank(PhotoprovidedtoGuangmingOnline)Thefollowingarehighlightsoftheconversation.OnthefoundingofAIIBanditsfocusoninvestmentininfrastructureWhentheChineseleaderinitiatedthecreationoftheAsianInfrastructureInvestmentBank(AIIB),itwasdesignedtoprovidefinancingforitsmembercountries,particularlydevelopingcountriestocatchupwithdevelopedcountriesthroughinvestmentininfrastructureandinotherproductivesectors.Ourleaderhasagreatvision,buthowcanwetranslatethatvisionintoreality?TheverybasicideaistosetupanewtypeofMultilateralDevelopmentBank(MDB)byfocusingoninfrastructure.BecausetheChineseexperienceis,westartedtoinvestininfrastructureearlyinthe1980s.Bymid-1990s,theChineseeconomystartedtotakeoffjustonthebasisofmoderninfrastructure.So,webelieveinfrastructurepavesthepathforpovertyreduction,forthetakingoffofaneconomy,andforthepossibilityofcatchingupwithdevelopedcountries.OnthevalsuesofAIIBandhowitalignswiththevalsuesoftheChineseleaderTobuildupthewell-beingoftheentirehumansocietyisthevalsuesoftheChineseleader,andIthinkweareexactlydoingthis.Ifwebelieveourjobisnotsimplytopursueourpersonalinterests,thenyouwouldbeinspired,andyouwillbefilledwithakindofenthusiasmtodothingswhichyouthinkisworthyourlife.OnthecommonvisionsharedbytheBeltandRoadInitiativeandAIIBTheBeltandRoadInitiativeandtheAIIBsharethesamevisionofpromotingglobalconnectivity,promotingtheglobalizedeconomyinwhichweallenjoytheoutcomeof1+1ismorethantwo.WewanttoensurethatalltheBeltandRoadprojectsproposedtousbythemembercountrieswillbecompletedbyhighstandards.AnditisourjobtogivecredibilitytotheBeltandRoadInitiative.OnthedifficultyAIIBfacedduringitsfoundingandhowitwasovercomeSinceChinainitiatedthisbank,howcouldwehelpallthemembersandprobablyfuturememberstohaveconfidenceinthehighstandardofthisbank?Startingfromdayone,asthepresident,asthemanagementteam,wedidourbesttooperatebythehighestpossiblestandards.Andit’samazingtoseethatonly18monthsafterthebankwasupandrunning,wegotAAAratingbythemajorratingcompanies.It’spurelybecauseoftherigorousimplementationofthesystemwesetup.OnthecorporatecultureatAIIBAsanewinstitution,wehavepeoplefrommanycountries.Comingtogether,whatkindofcorporateculturearewegoingtobuildup?That’sachallenge.Ialwaysbelievecorporatecultureisthekeytothesuccessofanyinstitution.Theinstitutionshouldbeattentivetothevarietyoftheneedsandrequestsofthestaff.Youngstaffwouldliketoseewhethertheycouldhaveafutureinthisinstitution.Andseniorpeoplewouldliketoknowtowhatextenttheycanmakethebestuseoftheremaininglifeoftheircareertohelpbuildingupanewinstitution.It’snotoftenthatyoucouldhaveachancetobuildupanewinstitution.Inmostcases,theprofessionalssimplyworkinawell-establishedinstitution.Soquitealotofseniorpeopleareverydedicated,becausetheywanttobringtheirexperienceintothisinstitution.Theywanttobuildupaninstitutionwiththeirownexpectationsbuiltintoit.Also,it’sveryimportantforustocreateaworkingenvironmentinwhichallthepeopleenjoytheirdignity,self-esteem,andbeingtreatedfairly.OntheinclusivenessofrecruitmentatAIIBMostoftheMDBsonlyrecruitprofessionalsoftheirmembers.Wedon’t.Weareinclusive.Regardlessofthemembershipofyourcountry,youcancompete.Welookatyourprofessionalexperience,trackrecord,wedon’tlookatyourpassport.Andwealsotrytorecruitasmanyfemaleprofessionalsaspossible.AndIsetagreatstoolbytheirethicalstandards.Idon’twantcorruption,Idon’twantpeoplewhowouldbreaktherules,andIwillnottolerateanyharassmentinthisinstitution.Editor:DisclaimerTheviewsandopinionsexpressedinthisarticlearethoseoftheauthor's,GMW.cnmakesnorepresentationsastoaccuracy,suitability,orvalidityofanyinformationonthissiteandwillnotbeliableforanyerrors,omissions,ordelaysinthisinformation.
